When planning a trip to the Granite State, you’ll have a wide variety of New Hampshire resorts at your disposal. Whether you’re heading to the White Mountains to take advantage of the great summer hiking or visiting one of the many great New Hampshire ski resorts, you will not be disappointed by the incredible resorts that the “Live Free or Die” state has to offer.
How to Choose New Hampshire Resorts
Given the wide variety of different New Hampshire resorts and hotels across this state, it may be overwhelming at first when you’re trying to find the best resort for your family. Obviously, if you live in New England, then you should have plenty of chances to explore the different NH resorts, but if you’re traveling a great distance to get here, then it’s worth taking some time to find the resort that is perfect for your family.
Perhaps the easiest way to narrow down your search is to stick to a specific region of New Hampshire. For instance, if seeing the White Mountains is important to your family, then choosing a resort like the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods or the Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa in Whitefield would both be excellent choices. Alternatively, if you were looking to spend the majority of your vacation in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire, then the Wentworth by the Sea Marriott Hotel and Spa in New Castle would be perfect.
Once you know the region of NH that you’ll be visiting, your search for the perfect New Hampshire resorts will be much simpler. But before we move onto our recommendations for the best New Hampshire resorts in each region of the state, there are a couple more tips you can use to find a high quality vacation resort. When comparing establishments, be sure to visit each resort’s official website to see what services, activities and amenities are offered by that specific resort. If you have requirements for your stay – such as access to a golf course, fitness room or spa service – you’ll want to make sure that the resort you’re staying at provides these services before you book your trip.
The Best New Hampshire Resorts by Region
First, the White Mountains of New Hampshire offer the widest selection of resorts and outdoor attractions. If you’re vacationing near the Waterville Valley area, which has superb skiing and snowboarding slopes, consider staying at the Black Bear Lodge. This resort features suites with full kitchens and plenty of space for your family and friends to unwind after a day of skiing or hiking. Or, if you’d rather visit the popular Loon Mountain skiing area, consider staying at the Inn Season Resorts Pollard Brook in Lincoln. This Five Star Vacation Resort is right next to the slopes at Loon Mountain and features free shuttle service to the mountain during the regular ski season.
Obviously, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the sprawling and majestic Omni Mount Washington Resort, which is located off Route 302 (it’s so big there’s no way you can miss it!). This resort is also located right by New Hampshire’s largest ski area, Bretton Woods, and is just a short drive away from a variety of great hikes and climbs. If you don’t plan on staying overnight at the Mount Washington Resort, you should at least stop by for the afternoon to take a tour and enjoy the views. Hands down, out of all the New Hampshire resorts, this is the one that is most worth seeing in person.
Next on our list of the best New Hampshire resorts is the Crotched Mountain Resort, which is located in Francestown within the Monadnock region of NH. This resort features spacious suites with full kitchens, fireplaces and balcony areas. In the winter, you can head over to Crotched Mountain for some relaxed skiing. In the summer, you can take advantage of the resort’s full service golf course or enjoy the great hiking opportunities that the Monadnock region has to offer.
If you’re visiting the Seacoast region, we recommend you stay at the Wentworth by the Sea Marriott Hotel and Spa. This resort, which is located in New Castle, is incredibly beautiful and just minutes away from downtown Portsmouth. Whether you want to go to the beach, go shopping or check out the local restaurants, the Wentworth by the Sea offers it all.
Moving on, the Lakes Region has some of the best New Hampshire resorts on our list. First, the Inns and Spa at Mill Falls in Meredith is an excellent resort. This picturesque inn offers great views of Lake Winnipesaukee and plenty of nearby attractions to take advantage of. For a more refined resort, consider visiting the Manor on Golden Pond in Holderness. This English Manor House overlooks the peaceful Squam Lake and features spacious rooms with large hot tubs, fireplaces and incredible views.
Finally, in the Great North Woods region of New Hampshire, we recommend staying at either the Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa in Whitefield or the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel in Dixville Notch. Both resorts are absolutely breathtaking and your family is sure to find plenty to do both inside and outside each of these resorts. The Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa is the oldest and one of the most beloved resorts in the state. Here, you’ll have access to a full golf course, fitness center and all the natural beauty that the Great North Woods of NH has to offer.
At the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel, you will experience some of the best dining in the state as well as just about any outdoor activity you can think of – including golf, kayaking, horseback riding, hiking and much more. Well, I hope these suggestions have helped you to determine which New Hampshire resorts are right for your family and please remember to enjoy your stay in the Granite State!
